Summary

The University of Oxford is a key centre that delivers MND clinical trials in the UK, including EXPERTS-ALS. These trials bring together large MND research and clinical trial centres across the UK and sometimes internationally to accelerate investigations of effective potential treatments for MND. Dr Jakub Scaber is a Neurology Consultant and Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences. Jakub is one of a few highly specialised individuals that enable the delivery of MND clinical trials. Due to a recent change in staffing at Oxford, this short-term support from the Foundation is allowing Jakub to dedicate more time supporting MND clinical trials. This is enabling the centre to continue to expand the number of trials it delivers and create more opportunities for people living with MND to get involved.

Why is this research important

Supporting staff involved in MND clinical trials is essential to enable the delivery of trials and therefore ensure the work to identify potential new treatments for MND can continue. It also provides more people living with MND in the Oxford area with the opportunity to participate in trials.
