We have already been able to help people through some individual grants, but we also know that charities such as MND Association and MND Scotland have the necessary experience and resources to administer and manage this process, making sure we help the people who need it most.
That is why we have given these two leading charities £350,000 to help people living with MND adapt their homes and also to fund respite activities for carers.
Some feedback from beneficiaries of Foundation grants:
We cannot thank you enough for your generosity. I am writing this on behalf of my wonderful Mum. We have been aware of your great work via twitter and we couldn't believe it when we opened the letter to read this donation had come from the Doddie Foundation. Doddie Weir has one of the kindest faces we have seen! What an incredible Foundation. You have contributed to a major confidence boost for our Mum. She can now get down the stairs safely and go up and down when needed. This is a huge peace of mind for all of us - we cannot thank you enough. Sending love and best wishes
My studio where I do glass art and my sitting room are upstairs (converted bungalow) and I was unable to get up the stairs to enjoy the view from the sitting room and to work in my studio. Now I can do that and will be able to join friends and family up there when they visit. Thank you so much.
We have been able to have work done in the garden to make it accessible to me and my wheelchair. It's lovely to be able to visit our back garden again.
I can now have a shower which I have been unable to do for several months. The contribution I received has helped to finance a wetroom.
We are struggling financially to provide a downstairs shower for my husband who has MND and every little is helping. Thank you so much Doddie (this means a lot).
It gave me a few hours away from caring for my husband which is a 24/7 job. Total relaxation. (An evening at Ragdale Hall) Thank you.
I can keep my independence for longer. Makes both mine and my husbands day to day life so much easier. A big thank you to Doddie.
Making my sitting at home more comfortable purchasing a Riser/recliner chair. I have trouble getting up from a seated position, thank you very much to the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. Loved Doddie Weir as a player as well. Best wishes to all.
Thank you so very much for your letter of the 1st March concerning the MNDA’s ability to contribute £850 towards the cost of my wet room adaptation.
My first emotion was extremely tearful and heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the MNDA and of course equally Doddie’s Foundation and X* Branch of the MNDA.
Needless to say this will be an extremely welcome contribution to the overall cost and will help us no end. It was rather ironic when I was diagnosed in October 2018 with MND, Doddie Weir was on BBC Breakfast Time at the end of October so we are fully aware of him and of his wonderful effort to increae the awareness of this (currently) terminal disease.
Once again a million thanks.
I am writing to thank you for providing a £1500 MND support grant to help fund the installation of a stair lift in our home. My wife & I are quite overwhelmed by the kindness & generosity shown by yourselves & the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. I cannot thank you all enough.
We live in an older house with high ceilings & very steep stairs which I was having great difficulty in climbing despite having 2 handrails fitted recently. My daily stair movements were descending once a day with the prospect of a long, risky & tiring upstairs climb at bedtime. I had considered sleeping in a downstairs room but this would have been far from ideal as, although we have a ground floor loo, the bathroom is upstairs.
The installation of a stair lift has been a game-changer for us as this now allows me to move freely & safely from one level to another. This has helped no end with my independence, confidence & energy & my wife is also very grateful as she no longer has to run up & down stairs to retrieve the things I have forgotten! This will also allow us more time in our home of the last 20 years before we need to consider moving to single level living.
Again, I thank you for all your help & support.
"My confidence improved and helped foster a positive state of mind. Benefits and able to share in the positives of a happier state of mind. Since diagnosis the feeling of accessible support in many ways has been a huge comfort to both myself and my husband. We are very grateful for the support we have had up until now and know there will be more required in the future. Thank you."
"Took a lot of pressure off knowing he didn't have to worry about finding money for the POA and knowing family wouldn't have to worry at end of life. MND provides its own stresses and it helped not to have financial worries about finding money for POA - peace of mind. Really appreciate this financial help."
