Fundraising
We are proud to be working with the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation to stage the Scottish March of the Day, a continuous 146-mile fundraising walk around 22 football grounds in Scotland, from Friday 10 October to Sunday 12 October 2025. Following the success of March of the Day events in England, it’s time for the Scottish version!
Each Foundation will have a core team of 12 completing the full route in rotation. This will include many former footballers and individuals whose lives have been affected by motor neuron disease (MND). The walk, which starts at Motherwell FC and finishes at the ‘Oor Doddie’ statue of Doddie Weir at Murrayfield, will take just over two days to complete. All funds raised will be shared equally by the two charities.
We invite teams of walkers to join this open event. Anyone can take part and you can register in groups of up to 6 people to walk any of the daytime stages. The Foundations are also looking for companies who might want to come on board as an event sponsor, either as one of the two main sponsors, sponsors of one of the 22 stages, or sponsors of one of the 31 core team members.
Among those signed up to take part already are many former footballing heroes, including former Scotland strikers John McGinlay and Andy Walker and former Hibs midfielder Filipe Morais. Martin Johnston, formerly of Cove Rangers, Brechin City, Peterhead and Elgin City, who has MND, is also involved, with many of his former team mates and friends looking to take part, including Kevin Tindal, Barry Thompson, James Lennox and Mark Perry. We are expecting the numbers of former players to grow significantly including others from the rugby union world too.
