Tractor run

The 2nd annual fund-raising ‘Charity tractor run’ took place from Stapeley on Sunday 2nd August 2020.

The owners of eighty vintage and classic road-legal tractors arrived with their vehicles at Maylands Farm on Broad Lane, Stapeley, Nantwich for a 10am start to drive along south Cheshire roads and through farms before returning to the start point for lunch at 2pm.

The 30 mile route from Stapeley passed through Nantwich, Ravensmoor, Baddiley (included land owned by Huntbach family and Hockenhull family, and drove through the farm yard belonging to the Chairman of Cheshire NFU, Richard Blackburn of Baddiley Hulse Farm), Wrenbury, Sound, Coole Lane (included land owned by Goodwins family and Maughan family) before stopping at Overwater Marina for a half-way break. The route then passed through Hankelow, Hunsterson, Bridgemere, the Doddington Estate, and Haverton before returning to Maylands Farm at Stapeley.

Social distancing was adhered to and the tractors left Stapeley in groups of ten to reduce traffic congestion.

Prior to the run the tractors were lined up on display on a field at Maylands Farm. Tractor manufacturers to view included County, David Brown, Fiat, Ford, Fordson, International, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, McCormick and Nuffield. There was also a fund-raising raffle with a selection of donated prizes.

The event was organised by Nantwich Agricultural Society members Deputy Chairman (Nigel Burrows), Vice Chairman (Geoff Callwood) and their wives Barbara Burrows and Margaret Callwood.

Nigel Burrows, Deputy Chairman, Nantwich Agricultural Society, said: “The Nantwich Show has not gone ahead this year, due to the unprecedented circumstances, but we have put together this event to raise much needed funds for motor neuron disease. Thank you to the participants who took part with their tractors and those who assisted on the day, those who donated raffle prizes, and people’s generosity along the route in clapping us and giving us donations. Thank you also to the Huntbach, Hockenhull, Goodwins, and Maughan families and the owners of the Doddington Estate for allowing us to travel through their land.”
