A racehorse named after Doddie won a tremendous victory at the famous Brocklesby Stakes, Doncaster on Saturday. The victory was made even sweeter by a portion of the prize money being kindly donated to My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
The horse, fittingly named Doddie’s Impact, is owned by our charity partners, Cross Channel Racing and was ridden by teenage jockey, Billy Loughnane.
Describing the victory, Loughnane said: "It's class. Mr Brisland had him in great shape and I had a little sit on him earlier in the week.
"I thought he'd go close and he had a tough opponent but he got the job done. He wanted to win.”
Mike Hocking, Co-founder of Cross Channel Racing, added: “He’s a strong horse, and we knew that we had a bit of a chance. Billy [the jockey] was great and the pair rode a fantastic race.
“MND research suffers from a lack of funding, and we wanted to do this for a purpose, so it’s special to be supporting vital research and we’re excited to see where we can go with this. Doddie liked his horses too, and we’re sure he’d have enjoyed that one!"
Jill Douglas, CEO of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation commented: “What a brilliant result for Doddie’s Impact - winning the prestigious Brocklesby Stakes. We were all watching closely, and safe to say there was plenty of celebration when he crossed the line. And a sprint finish too!
“It’s fitting that this horse is called Doddie’s Impact and is already following in the footsteps of his namesake and raising money for MND research. The generosity of everyone involved with Cross Channel Racing is very much appreciated and we’re excited to see what the future holds for this promising young horse.”
Winning such a prestigious race as the Brocklesby Stakes opens up a whole host of options for the horse going forward, including the potential to target big summer racing festivals such as Royal Ascot.
Following the success on Saturday, Doddie’s Impact, has returned to the stable where we are assured that he’s back to his usual professional self, made more impressive given it was his first time at a racecourse.
By winning the Brocklesby this horse allowed us all now to dream of what's next, and we cannot wait to see how he improves going forwards.
