Deany's Race Night

Martin Dean (Deany) who was diagnosed with MND last summer hosted a race night at the end of May to raise funds for the Foundation. The evening was a great success, a moving and humorous welcome message from Doddie set the tone for a great night characterised by a few tears, many more laughs and a record breaking take at the bar!

Over 250 family and friends attended the evening and through a combination of raffles, auctions, BBQ, proceeds from race bets and specially commissioned “Do a bit extra for me” T-shirt sales has raised over £11,000 so far with donations still coming in.
A special mention to the Daily Telegraph Rugby Refugees on-line forum for giving the fundraiser such a great start. Huge thanks to the organising committee for making a great evening possible with a special mention for Simon Preston for hosting us at the Totton & Eling Cricket Club and to the tireless Adrian ‘Agga’ Harris whose energy drove us all on. He may also have discovered a new career as an auctioneer!
Deany his wife Sue, son Alex & daughter Jo drew a huge crowd who came to the event to show their love and support for a remarkably resilient and inspirational family. It was a great comfort to them to witness such warmth and generosity but also that so many people left the evening with a greater awareness of this brutal disease and the great work being done by the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation to help find a cure and to support those living with MND.
