Discovery Network Advisory Board vacancies for ECRs

22 July 2024

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is inviting applications from early career researchers (ECRs) to join their Advisory Board, the steering and reviewing committee for the foundation’s Discovery Network. The Discovery Network is a new and ambitious research programme, funding interdisciplinary and multi-institutional teams focusing on the identification of therapeutic targets for motor neuron disease (MND). It is based on Open Science and collaborative principles, and aims to apply industry standards to target assessment.

Eligible ECRs will be postdoctoral researchers working in the MND field in a UK academic institution and who have experience peer-reviewing research papers and/or project proposals. The deadline for applying is Friday the 23rd of August, 5pm. Applicants will need to provide:

  • a short personal statement (max. 600 words) highlighting their motivation for applying and the expertise they would bring to the panel,
  • their CV (max. 2 pages),
  • a support letter from their PI.

We encourage applicants to read about the scope and structure of the Discovery Network, including our Request for Applications and Open Science policy, as we are looking for board members who will help us achieve our vision of the research programme and get closer to our goal of a world free of MND. Applications will be reviewed by the foundation’s research team, the Chair, and selected mentors of the Advisory Board.

This is a training opportunity, working together with the research team of the foundation and being mentored by experts on our Advisory Board, to gain insight into research funding, grant reviewing, and the development of an exciting research programme. We will prioritise applicants who are working towards independence. Two ECRs will join the Advisory Board for a duration of one year, from assessment of full applications (in-person meeting in London, 8th of October 2024) to next year’s Expressions of Interest round (online, May-July 2025). Occasional meetings and communications regarding strategic and operational aspects of the network may also take place throughout the year, in addition to the due diligence process around project proposals. The scheme will open again next year.

The initiative was discussed with MND Scotland, and ECRs who have previously applied to be on MND Scotland’s Scientific Advisory Panel are welcome to also apply at My Name’5 Doddie. Both organisations are committed to supporting ECRs in the MND research community.

Please submit your application and any questions you may have to the Discovery Network’s manager, Dr Anna Motyl, at anna.motyl@myname5doddie.co.uk.
