Thousands of rugby fans enjoyed the first playing of The Doddie Weir Cup in Cardiff this weekend. The game honoured Doddie and he and his family carried the new trophy out ahead of the game to a standing ovation.
Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones was presented with the trophy after a clinical victory over Scotland but the real winner was the spirit and support shown to Doddie and the Foundation.
A dinner on Friday night kicked off the weekend's activities, with head coaches Warren Gatland and Gregor Townsend attending on the eve of the match. And as he headed back to the Borders on Sunday, Doddie reflected on a memorable and at times, emotional couple of days.
"It was just incredible to be there with Kathy and the boys," said Doddie.
"I would like to thank everyone involved in making the weekend so special and for the fantastic support for the Foundation from the WRU, Scottish Rugby and the whole rugby community."
"Congratulations to Alun Wyn Jones and his team for their victory and I hope they go on and enjoy a successful November series. Scotland did us proud and it was great to see young Darcy Graham earn his first cap."
"I am sure we will have a successful three matches at Murrayfield, and we can all get behind the team."
For everyone who donated, we send our thanks and we will share how much was raised once we have liaised with the WRU and collated all funds.
The monies will be commited to MND research and we hope to share more news on our next investment in the comig weeks.
Together we are tackling MND.
