James Clarke Statement

11 April 2024

We are saddened to hear about the death of James Clarke and our thoughts are with his wife Lottie, his three children, and their friends and family.

James was a brilliant supporter of the Foundation and was made a Doddie Champion in 2022 in reflection of his incredible efforts. From organising his initial charity bike ride, which garnered support from the likes of David Beckham and Jason Fox, to unforgettable nights at the Brancaster Ball – James was fully committed to making a real impact on MND research.

Despite knowing that his time was limited, James’ efforts were tireless, and he accomplished a huge amount, supported by his wonderful family, friends and colleagues at Knight Frank.

James shared a number of traits with Doddie while facing down his MND diagnosis, notably a determination to continue to live life to the full, and a steely resolve to improve the prognosis for people diagnosed with motor neuron disease in the future.

Jill Douglas, CEO of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation said:

“I’m so very sorry to hear we have lost James and send our love and best wishes to Lottie and his family.

“We hugely appreciate everyone who has supported James and his fundraising for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. These monumental efforts have made a significant impact on our ability to invest in the most impactful research.”

Sean McGrath, Head of Medical Affairs for My Name’5 Doddie, and friend of James, said:

“From the moment I met James, I recognised one of life’s impressive characters. His manner, determination, focus, and relentless pursuit of achieving his goals was something that will stay with me forever.

"Throughout the MND community, James made his mark felt – from superhuman fundraising efforts to challenging the charities and researchers to do more – he was much like Doddie in this regard. The amazing efforts James made towards fundraising for MND research will certainly make an impact and motivate us even more to achieve our vision of a world free of MND.

"Our thoughts go out to Lottie and the kids, his wider family and friends, of which there are very many. I feel honoured and privileged to have known James and his legacy will live on for a very long time.”
