Lions Trek for Doddie Steps Up

09 July 2021

We’re hugely proud to share that the Lions Trek for Doddie has raised almost £180,000 for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

Fuelled by a hearty breakfast of bacon butties and Maximuscle’s new Doddie protein porridge at Melrose RFC, the 30-strong team of trekkers set off at 8am on the 35-mile trek.

The beautiful route took the team across heather-clad rolling hills, miles of forests and woodland, past lochs and rivers and after many miles, compeed blister plasters and snacks, the trekkers arrived at Murrayfield at about 7pm after a strong 11 hours of walking.

Doddie was in fine form and saw the team off at Melrose before welcoming them to Murrayfield that evening. One of the stand-out moments of the trek was when Doddie was clapped into the stadium by the trekkers, which included many of his former teammates and close friends – a moment that couldn’t fail to give you goosebumps.

The trekkers were in esteemed company with numerous celebrities and former players taking part, to show their support for Doddie and the work of the Foundation. This included Jason Fox, from SAS: Who Dares Wins, Simon Shaw, Kenny Logan, Rob Wainwright, Jason White, Andy Nicol and Stuart Grimes.

We really appreciate all the support shown during the trek, both by our trekkers, and the kind donors who supported them – you’ve all played an important part in helping to support the Foundation in our vision to live in a world free of MND.

Thanks must also go to all our partners and supporters who assisted the trek, including: Thrifty, Maximuscle, Genius Brewing, The Cycle Jersey, Canterbury, A View From My Camera and Logan Sports Marketing. It wouldn’t have been possible without you!
