Mew takes on mountainous fundraising challenge

20 April 2021

John Mew and his son Larry are taking on an epic challenge to climb the equivalent of going from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest.

The challenge will take place at Newcastle Falcons ground, Kingston Park, where the pair will spend three days hauling themselves up 60,060 West Stand steps. To make the challenge even harder, John will also be carrying a 25lb bergen.

The event is set to take place from 20th-22nd August, subject to government restrictions allowing it at that time. John and Larry will be raising funds for both My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and the Newcastle Rugby Foundation.

If you wish to donate, here is a link to their Virgin Money Giving page.

John is no stranger to fundraising for the Newcastle Rugby Foundation and has met Doddie on several occasions too.

Here is a video about John’s story and the challenge itself and an update on how his training is going.
