MND Symposium in Scotland

Leading researchers and experts on MND (ALS) gathered in Glasgow this month for the 29th Annual International Symposium organised by MND Association and hosted by MND Scotland.

Doddie and My Name'5 Doddie Foundation Medical Strategy Lead, Sean McGrath, attended this important event and met a number of key neurologists and researchers, as well as HRH The Princess Royal who is Royal Patron of MNDA.

It was the 29th Symposium and is now firmly established as the best place to get a general overview of the state of current research in ALS - especially multidisciplinary areas. The key to defeating MND lies in fostering strong collaboration between leading researchers around the world, and sharing new understanding of the disease as rapidly as possible. This was the MND Association’s rationale behind the creation of the International Symposium on ALS/MND.

Each year, the Symposium attracts over 1,000 delegates, representing the energy and dynamism of the global MND research community. It is the largest medical and scientific conference specific to MND/ALS and is the premier event in the MND research calendar for discussion on the latest advances in research and clinical management.

Doddie said: "It was fascinating to hear some of the work being carried out around the world to help find treatments and a cure for MND. It was also hugely important for Sean and me to meet many of the professors and neurologists we now engage with through our Advisory Panel and spend time hearing about their plans and projects. And of course it is always a pleasure to meet HRH The Princess Royal who is such a stong supporter of MNDA and has extensive knowledge of the disease and the work being done to help find a cure."
