Scottish Rugby Support

Scottish Rugby is proud to welcome a charity set up by former Scotland player Doddie Weir as one of its official charity partners.

The Foundation was launched at the Scotland v New Zealand match at BT Murrayfield last autumn – when Doddie presented the match-ball to the cheers and adulation of the capacity crowd, both teams and millions watching on TV – and since then the global rugby community and ordinary people who have been touched by Doddie’s humanity and determination, have undertaken a wealth of fund-raising activity. Much more is in the pipeline.

Now Scottish Rugby will continue to work with Doddie and his charity trustees throughout the coming season starting with the unveiling of the Doddie Cup and the Autumn Test against Wales in Cardiff as a significant fund-raising opportunity.

Dominic McKay, Scottish Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “Scottish Rugby is honoured to work with the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation as one of our official charity partners.

“Doddie is a larger-than-life ambassador for the game of rugby and its values. He demonstrated that throughout his ten-year Scotland career and also featured for Melrose, Newcastle Falcons the Border Reivers and the British and Irish Lions.

“He continues to inspire in his determination to raise awareness of, and find a cure for, motor neuron disease with which he was diagnosed last year, and we look forward to continuing to support the work of the Foundation in the months ahead.”

Doddie Weir said: “The support from the rugby community, led from the very start by Scottish Rugby, has been amazing and I would like to thank everyone involved in the game. To launch our Foundation at Murrayfield in November, ahead of the New Zealand match, was just incredible. We are delighted to be an official charity partner of Scottish Rugby and greatly appreciate the support."
