Inspired by Doddie's journey, Scottish Student Sport (SSS) encouraged delegates at their annual conference at the University of St Andrews to join up for a morning run along the West Sands beach.
A chance to squeeze in some exercise whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery, the group set off on the morning of Friday 15th June for the first ever ‘Charity of Fire’ run.
The morning light falling against the historic town was enough to get anyone out of their beds. Sabbatical officers, administrators and coordinators of sport, even some directors trickled down to join the pre-run warm-up, led by the SSS' own physical activity enthusiast and business manager Catharine Horn
Thirty-three delegates joined the 4-8 km route along the edge of the world famous Links Golf Course, returning along the beach, inspired by Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams. Quite a sight for any locals!
SSS partners at Precor joined the run, along with sponsors ILOVETOUR. Further sponsors Aitken & Niven were also on hand as the support crew.
The generous donating, however, did not stop with the run as the Conference finished with our prestigious Dinner & Awards Ceremony.
Guests had the opportunity to contribute to the Foundation with a raffle and an auction throughout the night and the original target of raising £200 was shattered as the final total came to an outstanding £1,554.
