The Doddie 500 (00000)

08 July 2020

The Scottish Public Pensions Agency (SPPA) is celebrating the 50th birthday of former Scotland Rugby international, Doddie Weir, by launching a month-long walking event to raise funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation – ‘the Doddie 500(00000)’

Around 100 colleagues from the Tweedbank-based Agency are aiming to collectively walk 50 million steps across living rooms, gardens and socially distanced local areas from 4 July - 4 August. The Foundation is doing incredible work raising awareness of Motor Neuron Disease and the Agency is delighted so many colleagues are taking up the challenge.

SPPA Chief Executive, Penelope Cooper said:

“Doddie’s a local icon and we’re proud to be associated with his Foundation. I’m delighted with the response from our colleagues – this is a charity partner that means so much to the Agency. Earlier this year we re-named our Conference Suite ‘The Doddie Weir Suite’ and we’ve been disappointed that a number of planned activities have been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is now a great opportunity for us to say thank you and happy birthday to an inspirational man and cause, while still keeping our colleagues safe.”
