“Volunteering for the Foundation has been informative and relaxed, but most of all, a lot of fun!” – Alisdair’s story

03 June 2025

Alisdair Edmond became a volunteer for the Foundation in May 2024.

“I’d been involved in various fundraising activities for the Foundation and was looking for new ways to continue my involvement outwith fundraising when I saw the advert and applied. Mia from the team got in touch and helped me understand the role and answer any questions I had. I felt most at ease afterwards.

“I started as a speaker volunteer before laterally getting involved in Doddie Aid as a digital volunteer. Since joining I’ve attended two training sessions, spoken at Livingston Rotary Club, created montage videos for Doddie Aid, organised a Team Wales meeting in Edinburgh, attended the Scottish Parliament, and climbed the Kelpies.

“Climbing the Kelpies and raising over £1000 doing so has to be the main highlight for me – it’s something I would never have thought about doing, but when you volunteer for the Foundation, these random opportunities just seem to pop up!"

To anyone thinking about becoming a volunteer Alisdair says: “Get in touch – there's only so much you will gain from reading about it. I only fully settled on my decision to volunteer once I had a really positive, informal, non-committal chat with the team. Since then it’s been informative and relaxed, but most of all, a lot of fun!”
