Charlotte Webber expressed an interest in volunteering for the Foundation in August 2024, and joined our speaker training in March 2025.
“My mum was diagnosed with MND in 2020. Throughout Mum’s illness, I found the community surrounding the Foundation to be a real source of comfort and support, especially living here in Edinburgh while Mum was down in England. Getting involved with MNDF, initially through participating in Doddie Aid for the last few years, made me feel like I was doing something practical towards supporting families like ours who were living with MND.
“Seeing the swell of support for Doddie, and for the Foundation, helped me so much – especially after mum passed away – and I wanted to continue to be part of a community that’s working so hard to create hope and change for people living with MND.”
Charlotte has volunteered at events such as the Great Scottish Run, cheering on those running for the Foundation and being on hand with those all-important snacks at the finish line. As a speaker volunteer, she has also travelled to different events to speak about MNDF and meet our fundraisers.
“My highlight so far has been speaking at the Duns Rotary Club in May to thank them for the donation they made to the Foundation. The club members were so welcoming, inviting me to attend their club dinner and including me in all the evening’s activities. Hearing about their fundraising efforts and their connection with Doddie was so uplifting and reminded me that it’s a cause so many people want to get behind.”
To anyone thinking about becoming a volunteer Charlotte says: “Being a My Name’5 Doddie Foundation volunteer feels like being part of a community working towards something bigger. It’s an amazing feeling to go along to an event and meet like-minded people who also believe in supporting a cause that is so close to my heart. The team do a wonderful job of making you feel valued as a volunteer, and there are always such varied and interesting things to get involved with.
“My whole volunteering experience so far has been fun, inspiring, and supportive. I wholeheartedly recommend!”
