David is taking on Britain's Heaviest Hike in June 2023...
After following Doddie Weir's journey since his diagnosis I learned more and more about how horrendous this disease is along with the fact that there are currently no cure or even treatments. Cases of MND are also increasing throughout the population worldwide and will only effect more and more people. Because of this I had made up my mind to help raise some much needed funds whilst also challenging myself to complete something which has never been done before.
On 7th June (my birthday!) 2023 I will be hiking to the top of the UK's highest mountain Ben Nevis, whilst carrying 100kg of weights in the form of barbell and weight plates to raise funds for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation which Doddie Weir set up upon diagnosis with the aim of raising money to develop treatments and a cure along with supporting those who are diagnosed with MND and their families. I wanted to signify the pain/burden which someone diagnosed with MND and their families will go through and that is why the weight will be more than my bodyweight and all carried on my shoulders.
There are many months of training ahead to get my body strong and fit enough to carry this load for 9km and a to height of 4,411ft and I have made this page now in the hope of attracting some interest during my training journey and it would be amazing if I could reach my target. I will be updating my progress and more things MND on social media pages #britainsheaviesthike.
Thank you for any support you can give and no little is too small. Plenty of encouragement would also be much appreciated!
