Support the fundraising lunch 'Doing it for Doddie & Dave', organised by Ang and family by bidding in their auction here. Ang, David's wife, discusses why they have chosen to support My Name'5 Doddie Foundation below.
David was diagnosed in August 2021 with PMA, a slow progressing type of MND. Sadly for us it wasn't so slow and we had our lives turned upside down. Every day we learned a new way to do sometimes very simple tasks. David passed away on Wednesday 2nd November just three weeks before Doddie Weir. We made some wonderful memories and last years' event was one of them. Some of what we'll experience on Saturday 17th June will have a similar feel and we will honour both men along the way.
Throughout David's illness it was a difficult balance between raising awareness and baring all to help others understand the challenges families face on their journey. Doddie was most definitely a man who wanted to raise as much awareness as possible and he certainly did that. His friends, colleagues and team mates rallying to the cause.
The feeling of helplessness for those 'living with' MND, their families and friends is all consuming. It is because of this we have chosen to channel our grief to help support the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and want you to experience a fun afternoon enjoying a delicious meal surrounded by some of the most supportive and wonderful people we know.
By joining us you will be helping to raise valuable funds for the Foundation who's mission is to help find a cure and effective treatments so that others, in the future will have hope. There is currently NO cure and NO effective treatments. An MND diagnosis is truly a life sentence without knowing just how long you have.
Being able to focus on something else during this sad time for us has been helpful. It made sense to honour both men during this year of firsts as we will make the most of remembering them while raising crucial funds to help find a cure, treatments and awareness.
Bon appetite!
