Memorial Ride for Chris

Clive, Lloyd and Steve are cycling from London to Paris! Hear below from Clive about his dear friend Chris, and why they have planned to take on this challenge.

We are cycling from London to Paris in memory of my good friend Chris Matthews, who I met playing rugby some 40 years ago, and raising funds for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

In 2012 Chris cycled to Paris to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis as his wife, Jan, has been a long- term sufferer of this condition. During 2022 it became increasingly difficult for Chris to care for Jan as his health was deteriorating. Then in December the reason for this deterioration became clear when he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Sadly, Chris passed away in April 2023, just months after his diagnosis. 

Like so many people touched by this disease we wanted to help, in some small way, by undertaking this Challenge for Chris and the wider MND community.

For me it was the obvious Challenge, not only because Chris had been this way before, but in addition I will be using the same bike that he rode into Paris on.
