Race to the King
Saturday 21 June 2025
West Dean Gardens, Chichester, West Sussex
Follow in the footsteps of royalty along the spectacular Monarch’s Way and South Downs Way in this unique and inclusive figure-of-eight ultramarathon. Choose between a 100k or 50k route.
The 100K course
The full 100K course consists of two 50km loops: a flat coastal loop around Chichester Harbour, followed by the undulating castle loop along the South Downs ridge. Both loops start and finish at West Dean Gardens, giving your access to your drop bag and supporters at the halfway point.
Steeped in history and designed to cater both to seasoned runners seeking a fast 100K race and first-timers just hoping to finish in one piece, Race to the King’s spectacular course is truly fit for royalty!
The 50K coastal loop
The 50K coastal loop is truly the perfect first ultramarathon. Flat and runnable without skimping on scenery, it offers spectacular views around Chichester Harbour, passing through the ancient fishing village of Bosham before gently climbing back onto the South Downs.
The 50K castle loop
If you’re looking for more of a challenge, the 50k castle loop is the ideal ‘next step’ on your ultra journey. Following an undulating course along the South Downs Way, the route passes by Arundel Castle before returning to West Dean via the Monarch’s Way, with spectacular views of the Weald to the North and the coastline to the South.
